Job Overview
A leading food and beverage company is seeking a highly skilled Bakery Quality Assurance Tester for its operations in Abu Dhabi. The candidate will be responsible for performing in-house bakery tests, supporting product development, and ensuring that bakery products meet local and international quality standards. The role requires a blend of scientific expertise, practical baking skills, and attention to detail in quality control.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Duties
- Daily Baking Tests: Conduct standardized tests to assess the baking qualities of flour in bread applications, using Grand Mill’s or co-manufactured flour. Periodically test competitor flours for benchmarking purposes.
- Product Development Support: Collaborate with the R&D team on new product development (NPD) and grist changes, ensuring a smooth implementation process.
- Customer Engagement: Support the commercial team by visiting customers when necessary, providing technical advice, and offering feedback to enhance product performance.
Quality Assurance Responsibilities
- Sample Handling and Analysis: Handle and analyze bakery samples per local and international standards to ensure compliance.
- Taste Testing: Participate in daily taste testing sessions alongside a select panel to evaluate product quality.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the calibration and maintenance of bakery equipment for accurate and reliable test results.
- Efficient Processes: Maintain effective baking processes, meeting turnaround time targets while ensuring quality results are reported promptly.
- Process Monitoring and Analysis: Record observations throughout the baking process and analyze results to determine the performance of different flour types.
- Accurate Reporting: Deliver accurate and detailed test baking results, contributing to quality assessments.
Production Responsibilities
- Issue Escalation: Immediately report any issues concerning the final product quality through proper channels, ensuring timely resolutions.
- Customer Complaint Support: Assist in investigating customer complaints by conducting baking tests that replicate the reported issues.
- Flour Additive Preparation: Assist in the preparation and use of flour additives in production to maintain product quality.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities
- Safe Working Environment: Support and maintain a safe working environment in the test bakery, adhering to all safety protocols.
Cost Control Responsibilities
- Stock Management: Ensure appropriate stock levels of consumables required for bakery tests, maintaining efficiency and cost control.
Candidate Profile
Minimum Qualifications:
- A formal baking qualification or a Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Food Science, or a related field is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a bakery or food manufacturing laboratory is required.
Functional Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong scientific knowledge of flour and bread, with the ability to conduct meaningful tests.
- Practical experience in baking and testing flour-based products.
- Ability to maintain and clean bakery equipment, ensuring all standards are met.
- Strong communication skills for reporting results accurately and providing feedback.
